All other programs upgraded automatically without too many problems, only with ATI Catalyst Control Center there's a problem. Should I simply uninstall this software?

Removing that driver will bring your laptop to standard graphics performance. You will need to obtain the latest version of the Graphics driver from the HP website, but in order to do that you need to first identify the actual model of your laptop. You can do this by removing its battery. The model is found on a sticker attached when you remove the battery. It should be something like Model Name: xxxx. Use that among with HP Pavilion G7-XXXX on the support website and download the corresponding drivers.
